Dan Marino never won the Super Bowl, but the legend of the Miami dolphins and the defender of the Glory Hall won the AFC title against his childhood – Pittsburgh Stylers – who immediately regretted that he had not chosen him in the NFL NFL draft.
In fact, many fans of Stylers of a certain age (including my father) still have not survived the fact that Pittsburgh went to Marino, who in the 1984 AFC championship abandoned 421 yards and four landings, at the same time led the dolphins to the victory of 45-28.
“Tell him not to let this go,” said Marino smiling in an interview with 2024 with CBS Sports when he talked about a Steleers fan who did not forgive his team, said Marino.
Marino recently took another step forward, saying that he would have won all this if his children’s team chose him in the 1983 NFL draft.
“Looking back at their teams, I would probably have won a couple of a Super Bowl,” Marino recently said at the current protective struggle of Stilers Cameron Hayword. “I really do, from the protection they had.”
The decision of Pittsburgh to convey to Marino, of course, is the biggest mistake in the history of the franchise. It was a mistake that the then president of Steleers and the future Glory Hall Dan Runi tried to stop.
Initially, passing Marino, Rooney (who died in 2017) said during an interview with 2014 that the old NFL reporter John Kleiton advised him to trade a defender Cliff Studom for a choice, which, perhaps, had a second chance for Marino’s draft. Rooney liked this idea, and he sent it to the Military Room of Stylers.
“I entered the room and gave them this idea,” Rooney recalls. “They said:“ Who did you talk to? “And I was so stupid, I said:” John Clayton. ” Well, it was immediately the end.
Runi did not receive Marino, but he made sure that his team did not make the same mistake twice when Pittsburgh was able to make another better QB prospect of two decades. In 2019, the long -standing Orthopedic Dr. Stylers Jim Bradley told Ben Retlisberger that Rooney told him in the styles draft in 2004, when Pittsburgh was allegedly inclined to develop Philip Ryvers.
“No, this is not our boyfriend,” Bradley recalls, Rooney told him through the athlete. “I want the child Retlisberger from Miami. The child is a leader, this child is a winner. … You just wait and see, this is our boyfriend. ”
Stylers made a sketch of Retlisberger after he fell on them with the 11th common choice. Pittsburgh, with Retlisberger as their defender, won two Super Cups, three AFC titles, eight division titles and went to the playoffs 12 times during the 18-year-old Retlisberger career that one day will be immortalized in the Glory of Professional Football Glory.
Why did not Stylers compose Marino in 83? The story says that the then Steleers coach and the future Glory Hall of Chuck Noll wanted to restore his team with protection, similar to how the 1970s dynasty was started with the choice of the future protective equipment of the glory hall of Joe Green in 1969, the first Nolla draft as a styles coach. Pittsburgh followed his example in 1983, when they chose Texas Tech Tech The Nose Rake Gabe Rivera. Rivera recorded two bags in his first six games, but his career game to a quick and tragic finale after he was paralyzed in a car accident.
Marino was ultimately selected by dolphins six seats after Stilers compiled a river. He led the dolphins to the Super Cup at the end of his second second, but Miami fell to the highest team 49ers, led by the future defender of the Glory Hall Joe Montana. This would be the first and last super -cap during the career of the Glory Hall of Marino.
As Marino hinted during his interview with Heyvordo, Stilers had good protection for most of his 17-year career, which was carried out completely in Miami. The protection of Pittsburgh was especially good in the 1990s, since the unit led six consistent performances in the playoffs, which included three performances of the AFC title during the four-year period.
Stylers appeared in the same super -cap in this period, but basically fell on cowboys mainly from the game of the team defender. Pittsburgh entered cowboys with great taste, but two interceptions installed both landings of Dallas in the second half. Stylers lost, 27-17, despite the fact that he received cowboys and holding the future hall of fame, leaving Emmett Smith, up to 49 yards.
Pittsburgh won several super -bars if he made Marino? We will never know for sure, but we can confidently assume that Stylers’ chances to win in the championship during this period of time would be much better.
