Long road to Chris Yubank, Mother’s Minor against Conor Benn

Born rivals Chris Yubank, Jr. and Conor Benn, finally block the horns on Saturday afternoon at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in London to complete the rivalry that dates from more than 30 years.

It all started with their fathers, Chris Yubank Sr. and Nigel Benn, who in the 1990s had two BRT Titula of the world around the world. In 1990, Yubank, Sr., stopped Benna to win the WBO medium weight in a fight, still widely considered one of the best in the history of British boxing. Three years later, 16.5 million people in Britain watched a couple fighting a draw for Old Trafford, the house of Manchester United.

In the mid-90s, there were negotiations on the trilogy fight, but the battle was never carried out, and the third battle joined Lennox Lewis against Ridddik Bow and Mike Tyson against George Forman in the list of battles who wanted to see, but did not do it.

This was until Conor joined Yubank, the youngest in professional rows in 2016, and sudden fans of the battle had a different rivalry with Eubank against Benn to plunge into the teeth.

Nevertheless, Benn entered a professional game as a welterweight, while Yubank competed in middleweight and in the middle weight. And if this was not enough to overcome, it did not help that Benn was very raw and mediocre in his early professional battles. Benn was twice confused against the French apprentice of Cedric Payno in 2017, but won a controversial solution in competitions from six rounds.

Nostalgic fans hoping to see another eubank vs. Benn, had little reason to make hopes, since Eubank Jr. And Conor seemed at a distance of miles – not only in weight, but also in skill.

But then, in the empty AVO arena on Wembley in October 2020, Conor took the biggest step in his career against Sebastian Formalla from Germany, which extended Sean Porter on the 12th round just three months ago. Benn impressed Formella, demonstrating noticeable improvements and clear potential.

Benn followed this with victories over Samuel Vargas and Adrin Granados, but in December 2021 it was his cruel bearer of the fourth round of Chris Alzhieri, who was really excited by the British fan, who then became the next big star in British boxing.

And that night in Liverpool, when Calle Sauerland, the promoter of the Yubank Jr. at that time, predicted a clash of the second generation. The proposal was met with comments hinting at Sauerland, were influenced. It is fair to say that this was not perceived especially seriously.
