Pirates to return the Roberto Clemente board to PNC Park after his son “shocked” AD, replacing the sign No. 21

Pittsburgh pirates changed the course to the decision to remove from PNC Park Parackard in honor of the late hall of fame and legends of the franchise Roberto Clemente to free up the advertising space. The answer of the pirates appears after the son of Clemente, Roberto Clemente, the youngest, criticized the club for the decision.

Clemente -the youngest noticed a change that replaced the sign with an announcement of alcoholic beverages for surfing, when social networks indicated:

On Sunday, Clement, the youngest said that he was “shocked” by the change:

“Yesterday I was shocked by learning that the sign of Clemente 21 – a tribute to my father on the right field wall in the PNC park in Pittsburgh – was removed and replaced by advertising. This change was made without any messages or consultations with our family.

“Although we appreciate that the pirates recognized our inability to inform us, this reveals a broader problem: the lack of significant cooperation between the organization and on issues that are deeply personal and historically significant for us and fans.

“The outpouring of support from fans in Pittsburgh and throughout the country was stunning and deeply appreciated. It is clear that the legacy of our father continues to inspire and unite people not only for his achievements on the field, but also for the integrity and compassion that he demonstrated.

“We have always been open to build a sincere and long partnership with pirates, which are based on respect and common values. We hope that this moment serves as an opportunity for thought, paving the path to a more thoughtful, transparent and joint relationship, advancing forward. I intend to contact the pirates directly to explore this further. ”

After the disputes read, the President of Pirates Travis Williams on Sunday published the next statement on the Clemente wall and the decision to delete one of the signs dedicated to the Clemente:

“We did not intend to disrespect Roberto Clemente’s legacy, adding advertising to laying in the right field.

“When we added an advertisement for the pillow, this was not to keep the logo No. 21. This is ultimately on me, and not for anyone else in the organization. It was an honest mistake.

“We will add logo No. 21 back to the gasket.

“We used this area for advertising for many years. When we did not have a sponsor leaving Covid, in 2022 we added an additional element in honor of Roberto’s heritage. It was a copy of the sign “Three Rivers”, the honor of it.

“This is in addition to many elements throughout the stadium that honor his legacy, including the fact that the wall is called the Roberto Clemente wall, has a height of 21 foot and has two No. 21.

“We want to make sure that the family of Clemente understands that we did not intend to disrespect their father. We are looking forward to continuing our relationship with the Clemente family and apologize to them and our fans for our honest mistake. ”

Clemente, who spent his entire 18-year career in Pirates, collected exactly 3,000 hits, won the MVP award, earned 15 All-STAR selection and won 12 golden gloves. He also won a couple of World Series rings with Pittsburgh and was called the 1971 MVP World Series. Clemente tragically died in a plane crash on New Year’s Eve 1972, when he was in the humanitarian mission in Nicaragua. He was introduced posthumously into the Hall of Fame of baseball in 1973 in a special election.
